The following tips for ensuring safety:
1) Abide by Chinese laws and respect Chinese customs
2) Take sufficient money with you, and prepare for all kinds of emergency
3) Take care of your passport, visa and other travel documents
4) insure your life and precious items
5) Check your air tickets and other travel documents
6) Don't take any knife or other sharp tools because they may be confiscated
7) Don't put your home address on the luggage labels lest thieves break in while you are out
8) Tie your luggage tightly to prevent spills
9) Take travelers' checks rather than cash
10) Don't lose your keys in public places
11) Keep important phone numbers handy
12) Taking a local map with you, and mark out your hotel's location; if convenient, take a   hotel logo with you, so that if you get lost you can show it to taxi drivers or       passersby 13) Learn some local expressions, such as greetings
14) Walk in street lamp-lit areas at night
15) Cry for help when your safety is in danger. Report incidents to the nearest police     station, or dial 110 for police assistance
