A thief broke into someone's house one night. After probing around for quite a while he couldn't find anything worth stealing, so he decided to leave.

Just as the thief was crossing the threshold, the owner of the house shouted from his bed: "Hey, close the door before you leave!" The thief looked back and said peevishly: "How lazy you are! No wonder you've got nothing at home."

The owner, still lying in bed, said triumphantly: "I suppose you wish that I worked hard so that I could buy things for you to steal!"
