| A Brief introduction to Xi'ning | |||
Being the capital of Qinghai province, Xining is located in the east of the Region. Xining has a high altitude, low temperature and little rain. Xi'ning is an important city along the famous "Old Silk Road". It has been named "Xi'ning" from Song Dynasty (420-479A.D.). Being one of the "Four Tourist Zones" of Qinghai province, Xi'ning has many famous tourist sites, for example, Ta'er Lamasery, which is the birthplace of Tson-kha Pa, and the founder of the Yellow Scet of Lamaism; Qutan Temple, Xi'ning Mosque; and the ruins of the Old Tang-Tibet Road.
Liuyueliu Art Festival is held every year. In the morning, with sorcerers
leading the way, the villagers bear a "divine sedan chair" on their shoulders
and paraded it in every house in the village. The ritual is designed to
protect families from evil and mishap. Next morning, the villagers gather
to decorate the nearby mountain with religious streamers before returning
to the village temple for round after round of sorcerers' dances. |
