Lake Taihu

Located in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Lake Taihu is the third largest fresh-water lake in China. It covers an area of 2425 square kilometers. The 48 islets in the lake and the peaks along the lakeside make up 72 peaks. The noted one is East Dongting Hill, West Hill, Maji Hill, Sanshan Hill and Yuantouzhu. The best place to see Lake Taihu is the Shutian Pavilion at the summit of the Deer Crown Hill.

Built in 1918,Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head isle) Park is located on a turtle-shaped peninsula by the Lake Taihu. It contains a mansion, a villa, a garden and a pagoda. The garden refers to the "Garden inside the Garden"-- the orchid Garden within the Yuantouzhu Park, which covers an area of 1.3 hectares. Wuxi has historically been known for cultivating orchids. The main structure in the garden is the Orchid Habitat, a rural style canopy with white walls and dark tiles.

The largest Buddhist statue in the world is placed atop the Small Divine Hill by Taihu Lake. The statue is an 88-meter-high bronze statue of Sakyamuni.
