| Street
markets are ideal for more affordable souvenirs and gifts. |
| The
Barkhor and Barkhor Square are home to a horde of stalls selling Buddhist
knickknacks and Tibetan knives, scarves and bags. Other interesting
mementos are the Tibetan tents used for religious ceremonies. A whole
tent will cost RMB3,000. More manageable - and much cheaper - is a
decorated tent-door curtain. |
| Cheap
thangka scroll paintings can also be found in the Barkhor. They are
not of the highest quality, however. The shops clustered around the
steps leading to the Potala Palace are a better bet for good thangka. |
