A Brief introduction to Chongqing |
|
|||||||||
![]() Chongqing, also called the "Mountain City" or "River City", is the largest city in Southwest China. It is a hub of water and land communications and an important industrial center. It is also the starting point for a cruise on the Changjiang River to visit the scenic spots and historical sites along its banks. Chongqing was the secondary capital during the Anti-Japanese War Period. Hongyan Revolutionary Museum was the site of the former South Bureau of the C.P.C. Central Committee and the Chongqing Office of the 8th Route Army. The historical relics, photos and other materials on display are a real reflection of the life and work of the revolutionary struggles in that period. Shifang Conglin, situated on the Lion Mountain, was built in the Tang Dynasty. It was first used as a Buddhist Temple and was renamed Haichan Monastery in 1927. Since then, it has remained the only monastery that has both monks and nuns in the whole country. In west of the city lies the well-known Stone Carvings of Dazu. In the city proper it has Beiwenquan (North Hot Spring), Nanwenqun (South Hot Spring), the Longevity Lake and other places of beauty. The view of Chongqing, a mountainous city, is most attractive at night.
