The Eight Outer Monasteries

The Eight Outer Monasteries were built in groups on the mountain slopes on the east and north of the Mountain Resort. Their glistening gilt tiles and grandiose constructions show a harmonic combination of the Han, Mongolian and Tibetan architectural style. There are Puning Temple, Putuo Zongsheng Temple (also called Small Potala Palace), Pule Temple, Xumi Fushou Temple, etc. The Mountain Resort together with the majestic temples is the formation of a unified entity. It is the miniature of the glorious land of China.

The thousand-hands and thousand-eyes Avalokitesvara in the Mahayana Two-storied Pavilion in the Puning Monastery is the biggest wood-carved Buddha Statue.
